Why DignityID is different
More than a medical alert bracelet.
Traditional medical IDs are built primarily to help responders identify critical medical information in an emergency. Some modern IDs also link to digital health profiles. DignityID is being designed for a different, broader job: helping another person understand how to communicate with, respond to, and support the individual in front of them.
Visible communication context
A user-approved, fully visible statement can show a condition, communication need, or support preference when the person chooses to put it on the ID, so useful context is available before a QR code is scanned.
QR-linked expanded profile
A QR code is designed to open additional information the individual or authorized supporter has chosen to share, such as communication preferences, support instructions, emergency contacts, caregiver details, and selected medical information.
A communication-first service
DignityID is being developed as more than customized jewelry: a guided builder, physical Communication ID, controlled digital profile, updates, and future account and support capabilities for everyday life, not only medical emergencies.
Privacy by choice
Diagnosis is optional. The individual or authorized supporter decides what is visible on the physical ID, what is available through the QR-linked profile, and what is not shared.
Medical IDs are primarily designed to tell responders what is medically wrong.
DignityID is designed to help another person understand how to communicate, respond, and support the individual in front of them.
Why this began
Built from lived family experience.
The idea began with founder Steve King's daughter, Ashly, who has lived with IDD since birth. Many of her support needs are cognitive, developmental, and communication-related and may not be obvious to someone meeting her for the first time.
The concept grew further from hearing reports from families and community members about people with developmental and communication disabilities being misunderstood or mistreated because they could not explain their needs quickly enough. Dignity Signal exists to give people a clearer, user-controlled way to communicate before confusion becomes conflict.
DignityID is communication support. It is not a replacement for 911, emergency monitoring, or a medical-alert service.

Dignity Signal is being designed for configure-to-order production rather than generic bulk wristbands. Deluxe and Premium use a modular DignityCore concept so the personalized identity module can remain with the individual while the silicone band is replaced, resized, or changed. QR and future digital features supplement the visible message; they do not replace it.

Potential use cases may include communication differences, cognitive or developmental disabilities, autism, intellectual disabilities, older adults, temporary communication difficulty, caregivers, veterans, healthcare, schools, community programs, and public-safety interactions. A diagnosis is not required.
